The 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry registration started on 19th February last weekend, however, four days into the exercise some candidates have been experiencing difficulties with the process following the insistence on National Identification Number (NIN) registration as a prerequisite for the UTME.

Prospective candidates have been trouping to accredited centers for the exercise, however candidates themes not to have found the ongoing JAMB registration convenient as many candidates complain about the stress in getting through the NIN registration.

NIN registration is very very stressful and I like the Government to do something about it.

They made it compulsory to have NIN before we write JAMB, and that’s makes it difficult for me.

Doing NIN is very stressful, I don’t think it is even necessary.

I am not getting my JAMB profile code, I have been trying severally but I am not getting it at all.

The candidates urged relevant authorities to help them find a way around the challenge.

Responding to the challenges faced by candidates during the JAMB UTME registration, the JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede on Radio Nigeria this morning explained that the initial challenges in the registration process is not a major problem and are normal and expected and that it will normalize as time goes on.

The JAMB Registrar however expressed dismay at the candidates complaining of difficulties in getting NIN when they have been told forehand since two years ago that the NIN would be compulsory for registration and to get it ready.

He also observed that though NIMC has done very well, there are still problems arising from the NIMC side due to some technical issues they have been facing recently which are dependent on certain infrastructure and server overload.

He noted that the same infrastructural challenge affected JAMB which led to the adjustment in the date of the commencement of registration by one week.

The Registrar disclosed that JAMB received 5348 registrations on the first day, 4763 on the second day because there were problems, then it jumped to 32,000 and it peeked yesterday with 52,220 UTME registration.

Professor Ishak Oloyede complained specifically that one of their peculiar problem is with one of the telecom service providers which the body has been battling with due to their poor services.

He explained that candidates can still use the same SIM or Phone number they used last year, that there is no need to go and buy a new SIM unless if the SIM is not correctly registered with the Candidates NIN. Last year code will not work but the same SIM can give you a fresh profile code the moment you send NIN Number to 55019.

The JAMB Registrar then urged candidates to follow the normal channel of the registration, avoid cutting corners and be patient with the system.

Candidates who face issues during the registration process can take their complains to several channels like the ticketing platform on the JAMB website, Desk officers at the JAMB offices and telephone calls and your complain will be attended to within 24 hours.
