Mercy Corps has been present in Nigeria since 2012, focusing its interventions on adolescent girls, empowerment, economic development, and conflict mitigation. With the insurgency spilling over from the Northeast of Nigeria and causing displacement of millions of individuals, mercy corps started its humanitarian response in 2014 to address the rising humanitarian needs.

With funding from institutional donors, foundations and private corporations, Mercy Corps continues to provide assistance to meet the basic needs of vulnerable populations in the areas of food security, shelter, water and sanitation. With the recognition of the protracted crisis in Northeast Nigeria.

Mercy Corps strategy and expansion plans aim to address the root causes of the crisis and seek to build long-term resilience of communities with integrated programs focusing on the recovery of markets and livelihoods, social cohesion and social protection and youth empowerment with emphasis on adolescent girls and boys.

With multiple funding streams from large institutional donors and foundations. Mercy Corps programs in Northeast Nigeria continue to scale up and serve communities by transitioning them from humanitarian aid to early recovery programs.

Job Description

Mercy Corps is looking for four Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Intern to support its MEL activities in Maiduguri , Bama , Dikwa , Ngala , and Gwoza. These interns will be directly under the supervision of the MEL Assistants and working closely with all MEL, programs, and support (finance and operations) teams.

At the end of the internship period, the intern should have acquired the following skills and knowledge.

  1. Data collection, analysis, presentation, and visualization.
  2. Monitoring and Evaluation.
  3. Data management systems.
  4. Administration of Open Data kit platforms such as ONA, Commcare.
  5. Interns are automatically provided a Mercy Corps email address, as well as access to The Hub, Workplace, and the Digital Library.

Responsibility of Interns

  • Support data management system and data collection (including assessment, PDM, participant’s registration).
  • Support MEL training logistics and planning.
  • Support project monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Assist the collation of quantitative and qualitative studies.
  • Conduct periodic reporting writing.
  • Archiving of documents on google drive/team drive.
  • Performing administrative and finance functions.
  • Perform any other function assigned by the supervisor.

Eligibility

Internships are open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates (within one year) looking to gain experience with Mercy Corps.

To be eligible candidates must possess:

  1. A degree in Development studies, social sciences, Statistics, or relevant field, with foundation in monitoring and evaluation, would be an advantage.
  2. Experience in organizing program meetings.
  3. Experience with running assessments, monitoring and evaluation and other learning efforts.
  4. Experience designing and implementing research initiatives is desirable.
    Demonstrated strengths in analytical skills, monitoring and evaluation and reporting writing.
  5. Good interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills.
  6. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Good computer skills, including experience with Excel and PowerPoint.
  8. Strong contextual knowledge of central Borno (Jere, Bama, Dikwa, Ngala and Gwoza) is required.
  9. Fluency in written and verbal English is required.
  10. Fluency in Hausa and Kanuri is required.
  11. Applicants should be able to commit to a minimum of three months

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The intern will be expected to work 40 hours a week
  • The intern will be paid a monthly allowance of NGN100,000
