ASUU Declares Monday Lecture-Free Day at ABU, BUK and UDUS Ahead of Indefinite Strike

As the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) gears up to carrying out it plan of indefinite strike across public Universities in Nigeria, ASUU has Declared Monday 7th February 2022 Lecture-Free Day at ABU, BUK and UDUS

This was contained in a notice to its members at Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto and signed by the branch Chairperson, Muhammad N. Almustapha and Secretary, Shaibu A. Sadiku on 4th February, 2022.

The memo which was titled “NOTICE OF DECLARATION OF LECTURE-FREE DAY” reads as follows:

Members are, hereby, notify that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Union has directed all its members to observe a day lecture-free to press the Federal Government to honour the lingering agreements it entered with the Union.

Therefore, we wish to inform you that the Union has declared Monday 7th February, 2022 as lecture-free day.

As such, on Monday 7th February, 2022, members are directed not to partake in any of the following activities:

  1. lectures, examinations, supervision or invigilation,
  2. Senate, College, Faculty, Departmental or any academic meeting.
  3. hosting or attending conferences within all the University Campuses.

The notice further advised Members to use the declared period to attend the Union’s Congress scheduled 7th on February, 2022.

The planned indefinite strike is as result of the Federal Government’s failure to honour and implement the agreements reached between it and the Union.

The agreement borders on improving staff welfare, IPPIS issues and improved funding of Universities.
