The Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo has commenced lectures in the newly established medicine department of the University as hundred students of Medicine and Surgery are being trained at the University School of Medicine.
The vice chancellor of the University Professor Innocent Ujah made this known to news men at the University Campus, Utada Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue state. The University is one of the newly established federal University of Health Sciences by the Federal Government to increase the access to affordable medical education in Nigeria.
The VC stressed that with the support received from the Federal and the State Governments, the University was poised to deliver quality education based on Information Communication Technology (ICT) and reliable manpower to enable graduates to compete favorably with their counterparts within and outside the country.
The Federal University of Health Sciences says it will soon begin internal research into traditional medicine with a view to processing local herbs into orthodox drugs for treatment of contemporary diseases.
Professor Ujah explained that disciplinary measures were put in place to guard against unlawful conducts of both students and lecturers as a way of checking social vices.
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo disclosed that the work on the permanent site of the institution would soon commence, as the University is currently operation from a temporary location.
