The Federal Ministry of Education has launched two E-Learning Platforms, Inspire for learners and Ignite for teachers, that provides access to high quality certified online content for learners, teachers, researchers and other stake holders covering the three tires of the education sector.
At the unveiling of the websites in Abuja, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Professor Sonny Echono said the inspired E-learning platform is user friendly and helps educator put lessons plans together, learn, collaborate and share materials easily.
Mr. Echono explained that to ensure the quality and veracity of the content on the platform only Teachers certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) will be allowed to register on the platform by including a TRCN Number to be required during the registration process.
According to him the platform will empower educators with ready tools, Knowledge based and mush needed materials templates and formats that will enable better learning delivery in a more agile, productive and efficient way.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that the platform will help address the Out of School Children phenomenon and increase access to education across divides.
“From the comfort of your home, workshop, market and without limitation of time, you can access content and learn and do your research. It is absolutely important for us to join the rest of the world in embracing digital learning economy.
Mr. Echono explained that the E-learning platform was designed to provide a unified approach to E-learning as the Federal Ministry of Education has produced 4000 video lessons for basic levels, 7000 video lessons and 4000 audio lessons for secondary levels.
The Director of ICT in the Ministry Alhaji Abubakar Isah said the platform was created to accommodate over two million users at a time.
Adamu explained that the e-learning platform has two components; Inspire for learners and Ignite for teachers. The Inspire for learners provides students with curated, and collaborative access to e-contents for their studies.
While the Ignite for teachers seeks to empower educators with ready tools, a knowledge base, and much-needed material, templates, and formats that will enable better learning delivery in a more agile, productive, and efficient way, bringing the best out of teachers.
He added that the advent of COVID-19 has created a new normal – compelling a rethink and acceleration of strategies in alternative means of delivering learning.
He recalled that the Federal Ministry of Education had developed a COVID-19 Education Sector Strategy and updated its online portal for sharing resources across the country.
